How do rewards and points work?

For everyone: points and rewards

  • Earn points — Every completed chore adds points to your balance (if the owner has rewards turned on for the home).
  • See your balance — It’s on your member card and in your Details dialog (big points badge at the top).
  • Claim rewards — From your Details dialog, tap Reward Me to see rewards you can spend points on. The loot stash shows rewards you’ve already claimed and whether they’ve been fulfilled.

How to claim a reward (member view)

  1. Open your Details dialog

    • On the dashboard, tap your member card on the left, then tap Details.
    • At the top you’ll see your points, the Reward Me button, and The loot stash toggle.
  2. See what’s available

    • Tap Reward Me to open the rewards list.
    • Each reward shows a title, a short description, and its cost in points.
    • If you don’t have enough points, you’ll see how many more you need (e.g. “Need 6 more pts”).
  3. Redeem a reward

    • When you have enough points, tap Redeem on the reward you want.
    • If the reward doesn’t need owner approval, your points update straight away and the reward moves into The loot stash.
    • If the reward does need owner approval, you’ll see an Owner approval required dialog. The owner can approve or cancel from there (with a PIN if one is set).
  4. Check your loot stash

    • Back on your Details dialog, tap The loot stash to open it.
    • You’ll see the rewards you’ve claimed, their point value, and a note showing whether each one has been fulfilled yet.
    • Your points total at the top shows how many points you still have left to spend.

For the home owner: set up rewards

All reward settings live in Manage → Rewards:

  1. On the Chore Command Centre, tap Manage on your home.
  2. Open the Rewards tab.

At the top of the Rewards screen you can:

  • Enable rewards for this home — Turn rewards on/off.
  • Default points per completed chore — Choose how many points each chore completion is worth (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 5).
  • Loot stash display — Choose how many days of redeemed rewards to show in each member’s loot stash (e.g. 7, 10, 14, 30, 60 days).
  • Require owner approval — Turn this on if you want high‑cost rewards to need your approval.
  • Approval threshold — Choose the minimum cost (in points) where approval is required (e.g. 5+, 10+, 15+, 20+).
  • Rewards approval PIN (optional) — Set a PIN used when approving higher‑cost rewards.

You can also:

  • Clear redeemed loot stash — Reset the visible loot history for everyone if you want a fresh start.
  • Reset points — From Manage → Members you can use Loot Reset (Points) per member.

Create rewards for your home

Scroll down on the Rewards screen to Create Reward:

  1. Tap Add Reward.
  2. Fill in:
    • Reward title — e.g. “Pick dinner tonight” or “Friday movie picker”.
    • Description (optional) — Short explanation for the family.
    • Cost (points) — How many points it takes to claim this reward.
  3. (Optional) Turn on Limited loot slots if you want a limited number of slots that reset daily/weekly (based on how you configured the reward).
  4. Tap Add Reward to save it. It appears under Active Rewards.

Manage active rewards

Under Active Rewards you’ll see each reward with:

  • Cost in points.
  • How many slots are available and when they reset (daily/weekly/always).
  • Refill — Re‑add limited slots before the normal reset time.
  • Put away — Temporarily hide a reward from the catalog without deleting it.

Members see these rewards when they open Reward Me / The loot stash from their Details dialog and can claim them using their points (following your approval rules).

Approving claimed rewards (owner view)

You can approve and hand out rewards from two places:

  1. From your Details dialog on the dashboard

    • On the dashboard, tap your owner card, then tap Details.
    • Tap Active Rewards.
    • You’ll see a list of rewards that members have claimed and are waiting to be given, including who claimed it and when.
    • When you’re ready to give the reward, tap Hand over the loot.
    • If a reward needed a PIN at claim time, that PIN was already entered when the member claimed it.
    • Once approved, the reward shows as fulfilled in that member’s loot stash.
  2. From Manage → Rewards

    • Go to the Chore Command Centre and tap Manage on your home.
    • Open the Rewards tab and scroll down to the Active Rewards section.
    • Claimed rewards that still need your approval appear here in the same way as from your Details dialog.
    • Use Hand over the loot to approve and mark each reward as fulfilled.
